Join us for a grounding evening of carving your own matcha bowl using the traditional Japanese technique of kurinuki.
Kurinuki, meaning “to hollow out,” involves carving directly into a solid block of clay. This intuitive, sculptural process results in beautifully organic forms, rich with texture and character, perfectly suited to the ritual of matcha.
You’ll be guided through a variety of carving techniques as you shape your tea bowl, considering form, weight, surface texture, and how it feels in your hands. Once complete, you’ll choose from a curated selection of glazes that complement the earthy, expressive nature of kurinuki work.
Your finished piece will be glazed and fired, ready for pickup at a later date, perfect for your daily matcha ritual.
This workshop is open to all skill levels and offers a relaxed, creative environment for both beginners and experienced makers alike.
Tea will be provided to sip on as we carve our gorgeous matcha bowl creations.
